Appearently there is one instrument which distorts massively (if I
counted right: on step 15), I cannot judge which one it is. Check it in
the example pattern, then insert a cable in the corresponding individual
out and check whether the crackling disappears from the main out.

That is interesting. The cables simply go to the step/instrument pads. I
assume it was intended to be used with some external hardware, which
connects to some e-drum. So you could play (and program) with the e-drum
set.
