May apologies if this has been discussed before. One thing I would recommend, especially for the synths with no LCD (JX3P, PolySix) is to support the Sys Ex Universal Device Inquiry command.

I do this with both the MIDI Patch Changer and the Pro One TurboCPU MIDI. This allows someone in the outside world to obtain an ASCII version string to get the exact version number. In the case of the Pro One, I support it in bootloader mode as well as synth mode. This might be moot for Kiwi Technics stuff because it looks to me like the "loader" in not technically a bootloader.

Anyway, the implementation simply replies to the Sys Ex command F0 7E 7F 06 01 F7 which is supplied with MIDIOX as "Universal Device Inquiry.syx". In my case the response includes some ASCII characters that are readable when the MIDIOX user clicks on "Hex View Swap" in the Sys Ex window. This command is well known and perhaps there is already a standard format for the reply that I'm not aware of... maybe used by DAW packages to query attached MIDI devices?
