Great advice Quentin! I didn't think of using a magnifying glass!

Instead I used my multimeter and tested all the legs from the CPU mount (not the kiwitechnics chip) and the traces to the PCB. Warning, don't push too hard with your multimeter pin or you might break the trace. Using a steady, firm, patient hand will get you there with out any trouble. You'll need to test underneath and on top because the PCB is double sided!

I suggest fully removing the PCB so you can give it a full inspection.

Second to that, I went ahead with the PG300 mod, although I'm not using one, I thought it best to follow Murray's instructions to the letter. You will need to change the position of the switch on the back to Programmer, this is different to the Roland factory spec you might be used to.

I had a similar problem too because I was trying to program from the original kiwi diagram V1 not the new V2 one (use the latest manual). These instructions from Murray helped me unlock the programming:

press and release the group A button. Do not hold it.

No, you can reload the update but it should not be required.

Just to confirm, to edit a voice I have it switched to Programmer mode then I hold Group A and then toggle through Bank A, B, C, D and then press A twice for AA etc.? When I do this the slider picks up the edit's from the slider and write lights up but I can't hear any changes to the parameters.

This is the procedure I wrote for myself afterwards for editing a patch:

Go into edit mode press and release Tape, then press and release Group A, toggle through banks A-D and edit numbers 1-16 depending on the parameter you wish to edit. Pressing bank A twice will take you to AA etc.

we put a meter on it and it seems to be doing its thing ok, sending
