Both my A-140 have a true header/jumpers in the upper left corner marked INT.GATE J1. When the jumper is installed the A-140 connects to the bus. If yours does not have the header then a wire soldered across the 2 pads should work. There is not current enough to make a short big enough to blacken the pads - sounds like a bad solder job by someone to me. Looks like you were sold used or store demo units for new, or one from a very early run of Doepfer PCBs - but I can not think of Dieter letting a unit go out like that, just not his style. Shorting those pads with a solder bridge would work in a pinch if you haven't any headers laying around to put there. It is easier to solder tack some buss wire on top of those pads than to bridge them with a blob of solder. You don't want to loosen the pads off the board with too much heat.
