MIDI lets you sync two units' sequencers together. But even if you just want
to layer sounds, I'd stick to MIDI because the cable is less cumbersome.

The Polaris Expander was never more than a twinkle in our collective eye at
Fender. We never even made a prototype, as far as I can remember. Also, the
idea of sharing resources over either interface never got past the "that
would be a cool idea" stage.
