Hi David:

You are describing the symptoms of the membrane tail failure and you can either try to find a way to trim that broken ribbon while not breaking other ribbons while you are working in there or go for replacement panels. SoundDoctorin may also be willing to work on it again if they are nearby. Shipping it would be a nightmare with the weight and brittle membrane tails.

I replaced my panels a couple days ago and before that my Polaris was acting almost as you describe except tuning was one of the functions that didn’t work and that was painful. I opened it all up once and got a couple functions back with a lot of trimming and work but any Polaris owner should leap on the opportunity to buy and install new membrane panels while they can. It’s an excellent product at a very reasonable cost and the work can be done by a careful novice pretty easily with all the instruction and support out there.

Good Luck

Subject: [chromapolaris] Mysterious button behavior

Hi everyone, been lurking a while and now it looks like it's time for me to post. Has anyone had an experience where one or two buttons on a Polaris stopped working for no apparent reason? My Polaris is one I bought from SoundDoctorin in Montana many years ago, the membranes all work except in one place. On the sequencer strip, Stop responds but Play and Record don't; and also, the key which makes this problem a major headache, Lower Function doesn't respond. Has anyone had this happen before and do you have any suggested troubleshoots?

Thanks,
David
