Subject: RE: [chromapolaris] Help with moving forward with this Polaris

I wanted to check my Polaris before replacing the membranes too.

I was able to wire up some switches in place of several front panel ones to
run a few tests. Like the one that turns on all of the LEDs, and the one that
tests the voices.

Also, if you can get one voice working, then you can test all of the CEM chips,
right? Could you test the CEM chips in a different synth, like your P600?

With an ohmmeter, you could see if the keyboard contacts are working.

It might take some time, but you should be able to test it before replacing the panels.
Too bad, I just threw out my old Polaris panels last week, after saving them for several
years. You might have had more luck restoring them than yours, if just for a little while.

Thanks for the help on this Paul -
 Where it stands now

 powers up, but
lights come on, most of them, turn off and back on,
different lights come on..etc...but mainly all to most
lights come on and are non-responsive
The left side panel has had the
ribbon connector extended out from the circuit board, its
done well, I checked for continuity and connections are
good.
 Right side
panel is cracked on both pigtails. I tried cutting back and
using acetone, but they cracked again, there's not much
left, can't really make the bend anymore. I could
attempt to solder wires to it, I do have a temp controlled
iron and could try it on low wattage, but....
  So I'm stuck  - do I throw
good money after bad? I'm in it for 400$, then another
300$ for 6 CEM3372 and 1 CEM3374, then another 200$+ for a
new membrane panel...
Do I sell it for parts? 5
CEM3374, 50$ a pop...I hate to see something like this
turned into a carcass, but I'm afraid of what else may
lurk underneath. My gut tells me a new membrane panel and
new CEM's will fix it right up, but...
