some drum machines need din sync. i use it sometimes to trigger timed arpeggiators. you can actually use din sync and ext arpeggiator clock simultaneously on many old synths to trigger complex patterns.

I can confirm that I don't. Even in days past, I typically used other HW to provide the sync for older drum machines.
